Vehicle Insurance
According to the BMV in Columbus they currently require the follow as proof of insurance:
Bottom line is “Insurance must follow the vehicle”, therefore the “proof” should include the description of the vehicle involved in the Citation.
When I posed the question...”but Joe was driving Jane’s car”…there became two answers:
Jane’s proof of insurance on her car, showing her car on the proof, OR
A copy of Joe’s “Declaration Page” from his insurance policy stating that Joe is covered to drive any vehicle other than his own and/or Jane’s car specifically.
When I posed the question…”but Joe was driving a rental car”…there were two answers as well:
A copy of Joe’s “Declaration Page” from his insurance policy stating that Joe is covered to drive any vehicle other than his own, OR
A letter from Joe’s insurance agent stating he’s covered to drive any vehicle other than his own and/or the rental car specifically.
Ultimately, each court will/can define what is proper proof of coverage for their purposes…just thought the above information might be interesting.
